In Japanese mythology, there exists the 'snow queen' or a Yuki-Onna.

Although often devious, there are versions where they actually help lost travelers.
She looks 'very' inhuman, so having her DNA actually be an alien of living snow will show that she can assume two forms, solid ice or mist.
And you can't really kill air. So it's like her consciousness has to retreat back to colder climates in order to regenerate.
She can be 'cold' if only she had the "mandy or raven" eyes. Those indifferent half-closed eyes.
yeah, I was thinking maybe making here personality change once she gets the ice powers. ..but with her still consciously understanding the emotions she lost ..and trying to feel them again.

that would be cool. That would make her character so inhuman though... its kinda effed up to think about how the characters we sometimes make up would actually exist. But to delve into the pain of the strength/weaknesses of a character is what makes a story so interesting.
